Biography

He was born on July 15, 1878 in Brentford, England to Robert Withy Inman (1844–1919) and Annie Cross (1852–1938). On May 19, 1905 he married Florence Ambler (1885–1971) and they had a son, Melbourne Sydney Inman, Jr. (1909-1947) although his first names were transposed when his death was recorded as Sydney Melbourne Inman.

He was a the World Billiards champion in 1908-1909, 1912-1914 and 1919. In 1914 he defeated Willie Hoppe
