The series focuses on the life of student Alex Degenhardt (Wolke Hegenbarth), who deals with everyday life and sometimes frustrating friends, Claudia (Nora Binder) and Niko (Sebastian Kroehnert), not to mention her family: her little brother Basti (Frederik Hunschede) and hippieish parents Hendrik (Gottfried Vollmer) and Anke (Maren Kroymann). A sixth Season was produced in 2006 but not shown until late 2009, but in the end of 2009 RTL shown it on saturday night.

It is also telecast in Finland (known there by the name "Elämä on Laiffii") by Nelonen, in France (where it is known as "Ma vie à moi") and in Spain ("Mi Vida y Yo").
