History

McCollum High School was named in honor of Mr. Dillard McCollum, who served in the community as a student, teacher, principal, and superintendent for twenty years.

Frontier Bowl

The Frontier Bowl is one of the oldest and fiercest high school football rivalry games. It pits the Harlandale High School Indians against the McCollum High School Cowboys at Memorial Stadium. The match-up has a 46-year history. The football teams compete each year against one another.

McCollum Cowboy Band

In the Fall of 1983, the McCollum High School Marching Band qualified for the UIL Texas State Marching Contest held in Austin, Texas. This was the first time a San Antonio southside band ever qualified for such a marching event. Songs performed were "El Tigre", "Russian Sailor's Dance", and "Georgia on my Mind". The Drum Major was Leslie Walters. Directors were Dr. Carl Lobitz and Mr. Carl Albert.

The Leadership School

The School of Leadership and Public Service (SLPS) is a magnet program on campus at McCollum High School. The Department Chair is currently Yvonne Valdez. The program requires numerous hours of community service and encourages students to take on leadership positions throughout the school.
