. He currently plays for the Waikato under-21 regional team and has represented the Waikato Pistons in the New Zealand National Basketball League.

At the Albert Schweitzer tournament in 2010 Max captained the New Zealand Junior Tall Blacks. Max had 15 points against Italy, 12 against Brazil and 16 against Japan.
He also captained the New Zealand Under-18 side that competed at the Australian Youth Olympic Festival (AYOF) in 2009 which Max averaged 12.3 points per game and also a huge haul of 9.6 rebounds per game, which is huge for a guard. In this tournament they beat Japan for the Bronze Medal after losing to China in the semi final.
