 and had two children, Matthew and Emily, from his first marriage. The marriage had broken up as a result of his affair with Patricia.

Max's marriage to Patricia later broke up and Max and Susannah rekindled their relationship and remarried. Their marriage went through numerous tests but crumbled following the death of their children Matthew and Emily in a car crash in April 1997, and several other dramas. Susannah herself finally died in November 2000 in a fall down the stairs. In 1996, Max slept with Bev McLoughlin resulting in the birth of baby Chloe in December 1996.

In 2001, Max married Jacqui Dixon, the surrogate mother of his son, Harry. In 2003, Max and Jacqui moved away from the close to Woolton
