. His highest finishing in the Giro d'Italia was the year he won the Young rider classification, he placed third that year. He retired from cycling in 2004.

Former Cofidis team-mate, David Millar refers l'Equipier in his book Racing through the Dark, the fall and rise of David Millar. L'Equipier is said to be Lelli. Millar wrote that he took his first dose of EPO with l'Equipier. The two were at l'Equipier's home in Tuscany.
