Christensen was a semi regular fixture in the Geelong team from 1985 to 1988 as a wingman and defender. Recruited from Lara, he missed just three games in 1986 and averaged 17.13 disposals in 1987. He didn't play a senior game in 1989 and over the following two seasons could only manage nine appearances, the last of which was a preliminary final loss to the West Coast Eagles

He moved to North Melbourne in 1992 but was delisted at the end of the season after getting injured. The club, however, picked up Christensen again, late in the draft
