Although he planned to be a stopgap until Morales' tentative return from injury, he became the Angels' full time first baseman for the 2011 season due to Morales' season-ending surgery. He led all rookies with 29 home runs and 87 RBI's in his rookie campaign, while batting .254. He was voted Team MVP of the Angels after the season.
