Pro career

Huertas began his career playing with the youth teams of Pinheiros in Brazil. He made his professional debut in 2002 with the senior team of Paulistano in the Brazilian League

. He then moved to FMU São Paulo for the 2003-04 season. He later joined the Spanish League club DKV Joventut and stayed there from 2004-07. It was around this time Huertas converted to Judaism.
