Sayyed Mohammad Mahdi Al-Husseini Almodarresi.

Sayed Mohammad Mahdi was born into the family of ‘Master of Martyrs’ Imam Hussain, grandson of the Islamic prophet Muhammad.

Sayed Mahdi is from the city of Karbala.
Modarresi’s family has produced some of the world’s most respected jurists (Marja’a) and religious leaders such as Grand Ayatollah S. Mohammad Taqi al-Modarresi, one of Iraq’s leading Ayatollahs.
Under his father’s supervision, Sayed Mahdi followed a traditional curriculum, studying under scholars the classical works on various disciplines of Islamic law as well as instrumental faculties commonly taught at the seminary. His classical curriculum embodied a methodology which crystallizes the middle way of Islam, Islamic jurisprudence, a respect for the differences between jurists, and a spiritual education drawn from the Qur’an and the traditions of Muhammad and his household.

As a graduate of al Qa’em Theological Research Institute, as well as the Hawzah Ilmiyah of Qom and Mashhad, Sayed Modarresi reached the level of Sotouh al Ulya (Upper Foundations) in early 2000, from which he continued his studies to attain the equivalent of Magister Artium in 2008.

He has written three books in Arabic (published in Beirut) and two books in English, in addition to numerous papers on Islamic sciences as well as contemporary issues including social and political Islamic thought.

Sayed Modarresi’s most recent Arabic book is an analytical study of the prophetic narration known as Hadeeth Al Thaqalayn (‘Narration of the Two Precious Things’) which looks into the practical implications of this essential narration and provides a view of the Shia/Sunni deliberations on this text.

Sayed Modarresi’s English books include Say; He is God – Allah the God of Islam and Why We are Different; Bridging the Divide Between Islam and the West. The former is a wide-ranging study of the Islamic view of God, based on original texts. The book also focuses on a number of theological arguments for the existence of the supernatural Creator. The latter work is an introduction to the religion of Islam to non-Muslims with an unorthodox approach to addressing this subject.

Another work is a collection of essays about contemporary challenges facing Muslim youths with emphasis on problems in the Western societies where Muslims are a growing minority. Issues such as pornography, alcohol, marriage, drugs, and extremism are analyzed and include sections on advice on dealing with these problems.

Sayed Modarresi is constantly invited to lecture in many countries across the globe and appears on a variety of network television programs.
