Before Leo and Telecom Switch entered the market, MTC had the monopoly on mobile telecommunications and 3G Internet access. MTC is still the most recognized company of the three Namibian competitors.

Ownership

MTC is owned to 66% by Namibia Post and Telecommunications Holdings (NPTH), which in turn is fully owned by the Namibian Government. A further 34% of MTC is owned by Portugal Telecom
