Route description

M-147 started at an intersection with M-106 west of the State Prison of Southern Michigan property. From there, the trunkline ran about a half mile (0.8 km) due east to the prison gate and terminated. Just east of the terminus was a branch line of the Grand Trunk Western Railroad

. In 1976, a newspaper article said that "it's ... the second shortest highway on Michigan's state highway system, but for those who travel it one way, M-147 is the longest road in the world."

History

M-147 was designated in 1936 to connect the prison property with the state trunkline system. It would remain under state control until 1991 when it was turned over to Jackson County
