Lucy is a new staff writer for the show-within-a-show "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip", having joined that year and not having had a sketch aired yet. She has been working on the show throughout the series, but joined the featured cast during the two-part Nevada Day episode, when she "pitched" a sketch to Matt Albie

asks Lucy on a date, to which she accepts. Through issues with NBS, Tom needs to cancel his date with Lucy and lies to her about the reason. She then finds out he lied and eventually they smooth things over and line up to go on another date a few days later instead. Tom and Lucy remain dating.
