History

The Institute was founded by Former Congressman Lou Frey. Frey served as a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives

 from 1969 until 1979, representing Florida's 5th and 9th Congressional District's. After leaving Congress, Frey remained active in the Central Florida community and made an unsuccessful run for Governor. In 2003, Frey founded the Institute as part of the UCF College of Arts and Sciences, since separated into the individual academic colleges of Arts and Humanities

Programs

The Institute fosters civic education and engagement through fall and spring symposiums, The Civic Leadership Academy, and The Florida Joint Center for Citizenship. The Institute also serves as a library for Frey's official papers, and is partnered with the Bob Graham Center for Public Service
