False Dragon

Logain Ablar was a False Dragon who could channel the One Power. He proclaimed himself shortly before the events of Winternight in the Two Rivers

. He had previously been a minor noble in Ghealdan, but King Johanin and the Crown High Council stripped him of his land and title when he proclaimed himself the Dragon Reborn. Logain had been one of the most famous and feared false dragons in history. "Half the known world has trembled in the name of Logain". He gathered an army that almost crossed Lugard on its way to Tear. Rand first saw Logain in Caemlyn as he was being taken to Tar Valon

to be gentled; to be cut off from the ability to channel, which leaves the victim despondent, lacking the will to continue living, and usually suicidal. During this time, Logain spotted Rand during the procession of his defeat in Caemlyn, and with his ability to see ta'veren, realized that while the people feared him, it would be the person he saw that would rock the foundations of the world. After his gentling he was kept on the grounds of the White Tower and observed at all times to prevent him from taking his own life. Most men (or women) do not live long after being Severed, unless they find some other powerful purpose or cause to dedicate their lives to, giving them a reason to wish to continue living. Conspiracy?

Once they are in Salidar, he tells the "Little Tower" that he was set up as a False Dragon by the Red Ajah, as told by Siuan as part of her personal revenge against Elaida. This causes a stir, to say the least, as the Red's ostensible purpose is to find and gentle men who can channel. His story never changes substantially.
