).

As Wilbur attempts to carry Carol over the threshold, the neighbor Mr. Roger Addison is introduced, for the first time.

Carol has never lived in the country before, Wilbur having spent his childhood in similar settings.

Inspecting the barn, Wilbur discusses plans to convert it into an office for architecture business and a horse whinneys. The Posts find a horse that "wasn't here when we first looked at the place". They speculate on the horse’s whereabouts during earlier inspections. Carol is scared by the horse, setting up future conflict between the two.

Mr. Addison informs the Posts that the previous occupant and close friend, Mr. Oldfield, had to leave in a hurry and left the horse. Roger explains that the Post’s can keep, sell or do anything they want with the horse.

Wilbur desires to keep the horse, Carol desires to sell the horse, citing expense.

As Wilbur begins to clean the horse, the horse begins to hint at hidden talent, appearing to understand Wilbur’s clean his feet and open a window.

Carol contacts Mr. Parker (played by Jason Johnson), a horse dealer, who offers $50.00 for the horse, which is accepted by Carol. While attempting to take the horse out of the barn, the horse walks slowly, indicating to Mr. Parker that the horse is lame. The horse winks at Wilbur, further hinting at his abilities. The horse continues to act upon the dialog of Mr. Parker, acting sick and finally collapsing. Upon seeing the horse collapse, Mr. Parker takes back his money and refuses to make a deal.

Carol begins to contact the SPCA to deal with the supposedly sick animal, but Wilbur interrupts the call with news that the horse was only pretending to be sick in order to stay with the Posts. Wilbur explains to Carol that the horse winked at him. Carol agrees to keep the horse if Wilbur stops making up stories.

Wilbur is overwhelmed when he later goes into the barn, and talking to himself expresses his unfulfilled childhood desire to own a pony, the horse begins talking to him.

Wilbur tries to convince Carol, then Roger. Carol is worried, Roger afraid and Wilbur frustrated.

Mr. Ed sets the premise of the show: He likes Wilbur, will only talk to him and will not talk to "skeptics".

At the market, Carol overhears neighbors talking about the ‘new neighbors’, whose Husband has a horse that He thinks talks. Neighborhood talk is so rampant that Roger uninvites the Posts to a party to be held that evening.

Roger and Mr. Reeves debate matter of the talking horse, thinking it is a business tactic to get money back on the house or to back out of the deal. The tactic suggested by Mr. Ed, works as Roger decreases the purchase price of the house by $2,000.00 and re-invites the Posts to the party.
