Her lack of court speed and mobility, because of her weight and height, was her greatest weakness until she overhauled her conditioning program and lost 30 pounds beginning in 1995 and became mentally stronger. An excellent doubles player, Davenport did not feel comfortable playing at the net in singles until her increased speed allowed her to approach the net and volley more quickly.
