Hired in 2007, Genice Matzke helped the band to get the "most improved" award at CBA in her very first year as Liberty's Band Director. The marching band program is strong and growing each year, with 140 members participating in the 2009 Pride of the Lancers Band, and a projected 160 members in 2010. In the 2009 marching season, the band jumped from semifinals, placing 12th in 2008, to state finalists, placing 6th in the 2009 marching season. In 2010, Liberty's marching band hit new heights. They traveled to St. Louis to compete in the Bands of America super regional competition held there. They placed 23rd overall and 4th in their division. The band also finished 4th in the state, a new record for the band.
