On May 15, 2010, the LPME executive committee voted 6-1 to pursue ballot access as a recognized political party in Maine. To qualify as an official Party via the petitioning process, the LPME will need to collect 27,543 signatures (equal to 5 percent of the total vote in Maine's 2008 gubernatorial election) and submit them to Maine's Secretary of State 180 days before the 2012 primaries.
