Early career

Li Jianbin would start his football career playing for the Qingdao Beilaite youth team and would show great athleticism that he would attract the interests of second tier football club Shanghai Stars for a loan period in 2006. He would not break into the senior team and would move to second tier football club Qingdao Hailifeng where he once again spent most of his time playing for their youth and reserve teams.

 and would soon join their youth team Hong Kong Sheffield United and play as a foreign team in the Hong Kong First Division League 2008–09 league season where he played five games and scored one goal. On his return from his loan period Chengdu Blades had become a top tier team and Li would go on to make his debut for Chengdu Blades on July 5, 2009 in a league game against Shandong Luneng

 would show a lot of faith within the young player and made him feature within nine more league games at the end of the season. The next season, however saw the club relegated to the second tier when it was discovered that they fixed several games in 2007 when they were premoted. Li Jianbin would decide to remain faithful towards the club and decided to concentrate in establishing himself as a vital member within the team, he achieved this by playing in twenty-two league games and helped guide the club to second within the league as well as immediate premotion back into the Chinese Super League
