Leonora, Guyana, originally called Plantation Leonora is situated some nine miles from Vreed-en-Hoop.

The name Leonora is Dutch coming from the time of Dutch occupation of the country. It originated from the names of two Dutch children, Nora, a girl and Leo, a boy.

Leonora encompasses an area of some five square miles, and was once part of the Parish of St. Luke. It stretches from Edinburgh in the East to Stewartville
