Born in 1947, a native of Gudauta. In 1962 he entered the Moscow Road School, graduating in 1966. From 1970 to 1975, Lakerbaya was a student at the Moscow Automobile and Road Institute (MADI). From 1975 to 1979, he was an Engineer with the Gagra transport company. From 1979 to 1985, he was Director of Cargo for ATP. From 1985 to 1991, he was Director of the pilot plant "Gagra". In 1991 he was elected to the Supreme Council of Abkhazia. From 1992 to 1995, he was First Deputy Chairman of the Government. From 1995 to 1996, Minister of Foreign Affairs. From 1998 to 2002, Member of National Assembly of RA-thirteenth convocation of Parliament. From February, 2005 until January, 2009 he was Vice-Premier of the RA. From January, 2009 - September, 2011 he was First Vice-Premier of the RA From September 2011 - to present, the Prime Minister of The Republic of Abkhazia. He is married. He has three children - two sons and a daughter.
