Lash Out
Encyclopedia
In the city of Molde, Norway surrounded by blue mountains and the black sun, Lash Out arose in 1992. The band was bred from a local subculture and scene called Kult Alt (Kulturelt Alternativ). This subculture was engined by skateboarding, surfing and hardcore punkrock. Lash Out grew from different HC/punk bands in this scene, but was soon to enter the darker side of the musical spectrum. In the early '90s, when Norwegian Black Metal was on the rise and the churches were burning strongly, the band developed their own pagan style of musical expression, by openly combining dark metal and classic hardcore to an eclectic, ever evolving formula. This became their mark during the bands existence from 1992–1999. Progressive metallic hardcore.

As a four piece band, they got together in 1992 and recorded their first demo tape. This gave them a deal with the German label «Stormstrike Records»(SSR). The The Darkest Hour EP was their first release on SSR and set forth the horde from Molde. Later, the sound evolved into a heavier and more melodic sound as they turned into a five piece band and released the now cult EP Worn Path. The first album recording What Absence Yields document an experimenting progressive band with a deep intuision in rock. Varying the soundscapes from clean melodical to mayhem. Every Lash Out recording has its own dark soul due to the bands experimental focus. The lyrics spanned from an introvert poetic character, to darker nihilistic perspectives on existence. The Stormstrike releases have been given solid reviews worldwide, in such media as Kerrang, Maximum Rock´n´Roll and Metal Hammer, describing the bands output as moshy, metallic hardcore.

Tours

Lash Out proved themselves to be a live band of immense proportions. Their moshy, dark sound got the crowds moving like a black mass really should. The band did two European tours. One on their own, in a black van, in 1994 with twenty dates (Denmark, Belgium, Germany, Czech Republic, Switzerland and England), and one as a headliner for the M.A.D X-MAS festival tour in 1995 with ten dates. They also did a couple of tours in Sweden, one tour and numerous gigs all over Norway.

THE DARK AGE AND THE ONE OFF REARISE
In 1999 the band's unholy spirit went under. The conformity of Norwegian hardcore had put their dark sound down. The single release "The Unloved and Hated" was a comment to the conformity of Norwegian '90s hardcore. The band members were fed up and went from hardcore to a classic heavy metal sound, forming the band Thunderbolt (not to be mistaken with the German black metal band). A new vocalist was added and they could freely feed their long lost heavy metal hearts full on. The melodic part was still alive, but the dark essence was conquered by a technical classical one.

Around 2000, some of the original Lash Out members met their demons in their devotion to heavy drugs and even more pagan styles of living. Other Lash Out members held their heads high, keeping up with the new band Thunderbolt. Thunderbolt still exists, but non of the Lash Out members are involved today. Some started new bands such as the futurepop band Icon of Coil and the now defunct eclectic hardcore/screamo band JR Ewing. Members have now started new projects like Altaar, One Tail One Head, Combichrist and Morethanthis. Lash Out was the constellation that made them all free from conformity and «genre purity» in music.

However, in 2010 Lash Out decided to a short timed reunion to close the black circle for good and to give the unreleased album The Judas Breed from 1998 a face. Now performing as a six piece band with two throats, first supporting the legends Integrity on a gig, January 15. 2011. Oslo's own Okkultokrati starts the show. Secondly, a few days after, they will support the Norwegian heroes Kvelertak, along with Wolves Like Us and Årabrot. Integrity was one of the inspirators for Lash Out's evolution. The other bands represent the explicit quality of Norwegian rock anno 2011, hence these gigs was the perfect ending of the bands era. Acting alongside the legends and the new breeds.
Lash Out are now free from all the demons, but with the diamonds well kept. Lash Out went from being «the unloved and hated» to become a beloved statue of following ones blackhearts no matter genre, composition or conform opinions. Lash Out has over the years become a legendaric band in Norwegian and European HC history. Being strictly hardcore in doing what they wanted. No compromise.

The Judas Breed

The unreleased album from 1998 The Judas Breed will now finally be released! Thirteen years after it was recorded, it is still surprisingly relevant, and is served with the massive, dark catchyness only Lash Out can provide. The 6-panel digipak contains almost every recorded track as a bonus. The only exception is their other album What Absence Yields. 38 evolutional tracks of hardcored progressive metallic darkness.
6 panel digipak CD available on Get By Records. Downloads in your digital media store.
