in Godda district. This sub-urban area is famous for largest opencast project of ECL. Besides Rajmahal Coal Mining Project which is main supplier of coal to nearer two NTPC i.e. Farrakka NTPC and Kahalgaon NTPC, Lalmatia Colliery has always been the center of attraction for Businessmen, Politicians, Criminals, Administrative Officials, ECL officials and Police department in last one decade for being the major hub of different sources of incomes.

Politics

Lalmatia comes under Rajmahal parliamentary constituency and Borio assembly seat.

Mr. Lobin Hembrom, who has been MLA earlier for two consecutive times, has won the seat once again, succeeding Mr. Tala Marandi.

Current MP is Mr. Devidhan Besra (from BJP).

Business

Lalmtia has always attracted businessmen for being one of the largest coal producer. Till some years ago domestic sales of coal was going on but now officials has stopped it. Most people of the Lalmatia and surrounding villages (Dakaita, Basdiha, Lohandia, Bhorai, Bara Simra, Neema, Kendua, Telgama, Kusuma etc.) are employed with Rajmahal Coal Mining Project - and this is the main source of their income. Some businessmen hailing from other districts of Jharkhand are seen to come here for engaging there trucks in coal carrying business (From coal mines to Pirpainti) - which is second leading source of income. ECL's tenders for the construction of different roads, drains, colonies etc. is the third main attraction of politician, criminals, officers and others. Last but not the least, illegal extraction and supply of coal is the great source of income for regional people - even illegal coal depot are being operated with the agreement of police - public - securities - criminals. From a baby child to old woman everyone's eyes shine getting couple of 100 rupees after 2 to 3 hours' risky labor.

Market

Though everything lies under the Lalmatia area, despite this Lalmatia city has not seen significant development due to ignorance of administration, politicians and above all because of the lack of unity and narrow mindedness and selfishness of the public itself. So the other surrounding area, mainly Mahagama
