 came both Lakota East High School and Lakota West. The two physically identical schools were built in 1997 when severe over-crowding forced the district to expand. The two high schools have an interdistrict rivalry which shows off each year at the East/West football game. This game usually draws record crowds, is usually televised, and held at Lakota East High School every other year.

East holds grades 10-12. The school year is divided into two semesters with two quarters each.
The Thunderhawk is the mascot of Lakota East. It was derived from the original mascot, the Lakota Thunderbirds, which became the Lakota East Thunderhawks and the Lakota West Firebirds. The school colors are black and white and silver. The school is classified a Division 1 school in all sports under OHSAA

Lakota East is also home to the Marching Thunderhawks, under the direction of William Thomas and Robert Tanis.

The school is also the home of the FIRST robotics team 1038, which in 2001 won the Newton Divisional of the International Championships.
