. The park consists of forest, prairie, and wetlands. Known for its beautiful campground, beach, and approximately five miles of hiking trails, the park offers swimming, fishing, water-skiing, sailing, and a boat landing.

Lake Kegonsa itself covers 3209 acres (13 km²) and is more than 30 feet (9.1 m) deep. It was created by a glacier during the last ice age approximately 12,000 years ago.
