After much delays, a new international airport to be named Aeropuerto del Café will open in the municipality of Palestina

 which is 15 minutes away from the city. It is expected to start operations in 2014. Aeropuerto del Café will initially have a 2400x45 meter runway, which combined with a lower altitude than the present facility, will allow it to serve larger aircraft. If traffic warrants it, the runway may be extended to 3500 meters in the future.
