LSE IDEAS is a research centre for the study of international affairs, diplomacy and grand strategy
at the London School of Economics
(LSE). It was founded by Prof Michael Cox
and Prof Arne Westad
in 2008. Its pre-cursor was the Cold War Studies Centre (CWSC), also co-founded by Prof Cox and Prof Westad.
LSE IDEAS houses the Philippe Roman Chair in History and International Affairs. Niall Ferguson
is the chair holder for the 2010-2011 academic year. Previous chair holders include Prof Gilles Kepel
, Prof Chen Jian, and Prof Paul Kennedy
.
LSE IDEAS works with non-LSE universities on joint degree programmes. It coordinates and administers a double MSc with the LSE Department of International Relations, the LSE Department of International History, and Peking University
. In the past, LSE IDEAS also coordinated with Columbia University
on a two-year programme culminating in a Master's Degree in International and World History from LSE and Columbia.
