, has been very good, confirming him as first choice back-up at Fullback to Francisco Bosch. Also that year, he went to the Under-20 Rugby World Cup with the New Zealand team, taking out the title.

Baker was suspended for eight weeks in 2009 after verbally abusing a match official. In dubious circumstances, Baker was not allowed to defend himself at the hearing, and the local Hawkes' Bay official's version of events were never questioned.

Kurt is also a New Zealand sevens international and played in his debut tournament back in the 2008/09 season. At the 2010 Hong Kong Rugby Sevens, he led the New Zealand team in scoring 4 tries in their semi-final win over Fiji and 2 tries in their Cup finals loss to Samoa. He was also the top individual try scorer and point scorer of the tournament.
