kottakkunnu is one of the recently developed Area in Malappuram District. it is just located in the heart of Malappuram city and 50 km from Kozhikode,12 km from Kottakkal, 25 km from Karipur Airport, 17 km from Angadipuram Rly.station, 28 km from Tirur railway station, & situated at the headquarters of District - Malappuram. Those who had been to this place before 4–5 years, will really get surprised by the change. Visitors are allowed up to 9pm. Now Municipality of Malappuram City started Kottakkunnu Amusement park (Water Theme Park) in the valley of Kotakunnu.
Kotakunnu means Fort Hill..

City of Malapuram is mainly divided into 3 parts : Up-Hill, Middle Hill and Down Hill. Kotakunnu is situated at Up-Hill area near KSRTC bus terminal.
