Once Kongpo has been an area in southeastern Tibet, in the vicinity of the river named Nyungchu. Tsagong was one of the holy places of Kongpo and still is. In Tsagong Nesar, i.e. the "New Tsari", there is the monastery of Menmogang, founded by Thangtong Gyalpo. It is related to Dorje Pakmo Chokyi Dronma who died there. At New Tsari were located the mines from which Thangtong Gyalpo, a famous yogin and bridgebuilder, obtained the iron for some of his bridges. Old Tsari is now part of the modern county of Lhuntse
