. The hospital is affiliated with the Barnabas Health. Kimball Medical Center also operates two satellite facilities: a psychiatric hospital known as Kimball Behavioral Health (consisting of 100 inpatient beds) in Toms River and The Center for Healthy Living in Lakewood.

Kimball originated as a small community hospital founded in 1913. Its first six operating rooms were built in 1969, with two more added in 1985.
