Personal life

Kevin Kamenetz is a lifelong resident of Baltimore County, growing up in the neighborhoods of Lochearn and Caves Park. Kevin is the son of Irving Kamenetz, better known as "Doc Kaye," a local pharmacist who owned an Overlea pharmacy for over 30 years.

He currently resides in Owings Mills, MD with his wife, Jill Kamenetz, and his sons, Karson and Dylan.

 with a Juris Doctor. After passing the Maryland Bar, Kamenetz worked as a prosecutor in the Office of the State's Attorney for Baltimore City. He has practiced law for over twenty years and has appeared as a guest lecturer at the Community College of Baltimore County as well as before the Baltimore County Bar Association. He authors regular columns on County Council issues appearing in the Baltimore County Bar Association Advocate and Baltimore County Senior Newspaper, Senior Digest.

Kamenetz was first elected to the Baltimore County Council in 1994 and has served for 16 years, holding the title of Chairman during the years of 1996, 1999, 2003 and 2008. He also served as Chair of the County's Spending and Affordability Commission. Prior to serving on the Council, Kamenetz was a member of the Baltimore County Democratic Central Committee and served as the Baltimore County Party Chairman during his final term.

On April 20, 2010, Kevin Kamenetz announced his official candidacy for the office of Baltimore County Executive to replace James T. Smith, Jr.
