Career

Monk came fourth in the 200 m freestyle at the 2007 World Aquatics Championships

 and anchored the Australian team in the corresponding relay to a silver medal.

Monk failed to repeat these performances at the 2008 Summer Olympics

. He was eliminated in the heats of the 200 m event and was then dropped from the Australian relay team.

After the Beijing Olympics, Monk announced that he was moving to Brisbane to train with Olympic gold medallist and world record holder Stephanie Rice

In September 2011, Monk was involved in an accident that put his 2011 season in doubt. Originally he claimed to be the victim of a "hit and run", but later admitted to police that he made up his original story because he was riding a skateboard and was not supposed to be engaging in dangerous or high impact sports.
