in the south. A mosque built during the reign of Sultan Mohamed Ibn Ali (Muhammad Mohyeddine) (AD 1692-1701) of the Utheemy Dynastry still stands today as a historical place of interest on the island. This was the king who re-established the Islamic penal code.

Education

Madhrasathul Sheikh Ibrahim is started long back (about 63 years) and now it is a higher secondary school under the Ministry of Education/Maldives. There are 465 students in the school with 42 teachers, of which 19 are expatriates. The school started to teach until grade 10 on 2003, and until grade 12 on 2007. Moreover, in 2008 the school started teaching for both science and business stream.
