History

town was originally located at the site of present day Kangaamiut, when the former colony was founded in 1755. It was moved in 1782 to its present location.

Population

Kangaamiut has experienced a sharp decline in population over a long period of time. The settlement lost more than a third of its population relative to 1990 levels, and more than a quarter relative to 2000 levels.
