KVOR history

Originally broadcasting on AM 1300, KVOR is one of the original Colorado Springs radio stations that began broadcasting in the 1920's.

At one time, KVOR and KSPZ (Now KKPK

) were sister stations owned by Springs Radio, Inc. The studios and transmitter located were just south of downtown Colorado Springs.

In 1996, KVOR and KSPZ (now KKPK

). During this time, advertising time on these stations was controlled by Citadel Broadcasting through a Lease Marketing Agreement, while the actual broadcast operations were under the control of Triathalon.

In 1999, Citadel Broadcasting fully acquired KVOR, KSPZ and KTWK by exchanging KKLI

) thus ending the Lease Marketing Agreement. Citadel merged with Cumulus Media on September 16, 2011.

In order to provide extended coverage to the growing Colorado Springs market, KVOR switched AM frequencies in 2000 with sister station KCSF

(then KTWK) from 1300 AM to its present day 740 AM, broadcasting from a transmitter located in Black Forest, Colorado.

The station was known for a long time as "News/Talk 740," "Newsradio 740," and most recently "Colorado Springs' Talk Station."
