In 2003, KUAU filed an application with the FCC to increase their broadcast signal power to 50,000 watts (unlimited) and to relocate their transmitter west towards the center of the island, closer to the larger city of Kahului

. The application was denied in 2004 then reinstated on amendment and appeal in 2005 but the FCC has yet to make a final ruling on this application.
