KTBU is a Spanish-language television station located in the Greater Houston
area, broadcasting on one of two channels assigned to Conroe, Texas
(the other being KPXB
).
KTBU signed on in 1998, and originally was owned by the Osteen Family of Lakewood Church
. The station was later owned by the Houston-based USFR Media Group
.
As an independent station branded as Houston's 55, KTBU formerly aired an eclectic line-up of classic and syndicated television series also airing Rachael Ray
as well as locally produced shows focusing on sports, history and other topics of interest to Houstonians. USFR Media Group also provides production and other broadcast services to Channel 55 as well as third parties at its 30000 square feet (2,787.1 m²), state-of-the-art broadcast facility in Houston.
55.5 (branded as ITV) has a separate studio located near the intersection of Bellaire Blvd and Boone Rd.
The station was sold to Spanish Broadcasting System
(SBS) for $16 million in May 2011. Upon the completion of the sale, KTBU joined SBS' Mega TV network.
