At the outset, Karachi United were supported in setting up and financing the League by the KASB Group of Companies which was the Title Sponsor of the event for the first six editions.

Format and Developments:
In 2003, the inaugural Karachi Premier League saw ten teams competing on a single league basis with the famous Lyari based football Club, Hyderi Baluch crowned as its first Champions.

The first five Editions saw five different Champions until Shazad Muhammadan retained their title in the sixth Edition. The sixth Edition saw another changed format i.e. 16 top teams first played each other on a single league basis and then the top eight competed in Playoffs (introduced for the first time).
