Route description

K-256 begins at US-77 east of Marion, traveling through town, including the downtown area. After four miles (6 km), the road turns north for one mile (1.6 km), connecting to US-56.
Much of K-256 through town has a 20 to 30 mi/h speed limit. About a mile west of Marion, the road turns north on an old alignment of a Marion County road. At that intersection, Old US-56 continues west through Hillsboro. At US-56, the county route resumes north through Pilsen

K-256 first appeared on the 1991-92 KDOT state map. It follows a former US-56 alignment through Marion. It was formed when a bypass of both Hillsboro
