He grabbed four interceptions; one of them he returned for a 74-yard touchdown. He also had 47 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, and eight pass breakups. in 2009 he and the Crimson Tide went 14-0 and won the SEC Championship and the BCS National Championship. He entered for the NFL Draft
but was not picked. He then was drafted in the 26th round of the first MLB Player Draft by the Tampa Bay Rays.
