The band was founded by vocalist/pianist
, Vivion, and guitarist
, Chris, who started writing music together in the spring of 1998. By that fall, the band had grown to include drummer
Eddie, and bassist
Freddy. In 2008, John joined the band.
Their debut album, Counting, was released in 1999. It was followed up with Tightrope in 2001 and Sirens From a Mile Back in 2003. The band took off most of 2004 for Vivion to recover from a nearly fatal rock-climbing accident. After her recovery, they returned to the studio during 2005 and 2006. The band released Wake From Yourself at a sold out CD release show at the 9:30 Club on August 18, 2007.
In July 2008, Coldplay
chose Juniper Lane to open for them at the Verizon Center in Washington, DC on August 3, 2008. In February 2009, famed mixer Michael Brauer
