. In 1863, he married Marie-Agnès Poulin. In 1879, he married Lucie Dupuis after his first wife's death. Poirier ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the House of Commons in 1884 and 1887. He also served as secretary-treasurer for Saint-Joseph municipality. In 1897, he resigned his seat to accept the position of sheriff for Beauce district. Poirier died at Saint-Joseph-de-Beauce at the age of 77.
