Early life

Jon was born in Calgary and raised in rural Central Alberta. After having graduated from the University of Alberta

 with a degree in business. He established a successful video business in Calgary. In 1985, Lord helped found one of Alberta's first Business Revitalization Zones.

Political career

Lord ran for Calgary City Council in 1995, and was elected as Alderman for Ward 8 for two consecutive terms. While on City Council, he was known for his advocacy of energy conservation and environmental stewardship.
