John Robert Martin is a former Major League Baseball pitcher who attended Eastern Michigan University
. After appearing in nine games, starting five, in his rookie year of 1980, Martin recorded his best year in 1981, recording eight wins against five losses, four complete games, and a 3.42 ERA. After a subpar year, mostly out of the bullpen, in 1982 (4-5, 4.23 ERA), Martin adjusted to pitching in relief and bounced back with a 3-1 record and 3.53 ERA in 1983 in 26 games for the Cardinals
