Early years

At 14 Joey was ranked number one in Europe in her age group at 200m and number one in the UK for 100m, After a successful August 2003 where she recorded 11.79 for the 100m, placing her second on the UK all-time under-15 list.
Her superb form that year led to a nomination for the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year award where she was narrowly beaten by swimmer Kate Haywood
