, Treacher/Medlock was recruited directly by Carlson approximately three weeks before the Caller went live: Carlson, having convinced Treacher that he was, indeed, truly Tucker Carlson, set out to Indianapolis the morning after they first made contact. The two men met at that airport's Starbucks. Carlson then invited Treacher to jump on a plane that same morning, and they flew to Washington D.C. to meet with other staffers at the startup. The offer was made that day, and Treacher/Medlock moved to the capital immediately.

Medlock appears to be "stuck" with the "Jim Treacher" name. He remarked at his pre-Daily Caller blog that "I'm finding out all sorts of people who've been reading me for years. (Next time I come up with a web pseudonym that I use for the better part of a decade, I'll give it a little more thought.)"
