James William Lindberg is an American
singer and guitarist. Active since the 1980s, when he played in local bands in his early career, Lindberg is best known for being the frontman and songwriter of the influential punk rock
band Pennywise
, where he had remained as a member for 21 years. He now fronts and plays guitar in The Black Pacific
, who released a debut album
in 2010.
Lindberg also released his first book in May 2007 titled Punk Rock Dad: No Rules, Just Real Life. The book explores the dichotomy of being a responsible husband and parent raising 3 daughters while fronting an anti-establishment punk rock band and includes a number of anecdotes relating to each role.

, while some people tend to believe Lindberg was a founding member, this is not true. He was actually the second singer for Pennywise, Keith Brown being the first. (R.I.P.) The members were previously alums from two South Bay High Schools, Redondo Union High School

(where Lindberg graduated in 1983). In 1989, the band released two EPs, on Theologian Records A Word from the Wise
and Wildcard
, that attracted the attention of Epitaph Records
, who signed the band a year later. Together, Pennywise recorded and released one studio album: Pennywise
, before Jim was kicked out of the band for his refusal to do the bands first European tour. Dave Quackenbush from The Vandals handled the vocals for that 6 week tour. After that tour Jason took over vocal duties, and Randy Bradbury was added as the new bass player. Jim returned to the band during the final days of the Unknown Road recording session...while Bradbury was sidelined, they had moderate chart success, with their next album bout Time album) reaching the Billboard
top 100, unfortunately, Thirsk died of an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound on July 29 at the age of 28. Although Pennywise considered disbanding after Thirsk's death, the band decided to continue on with Bradbury as his permanent replacement. Since then, Pennywise continued to record and perform.
In August 2009, Lindberg announced that he was leaving Pennywise. He released the following statement:
It was later revealed that Jim left Pennywise due to creative differences and the fact that he didn't want to tour as much as his bandmates aspired to.

Personal life
Lindberg now lives in Manhattan Beach, California. He has been married for years and has children (who attend Manhattan Beach Middle School). He has also attended El Camino College and went on to later to graduate from UCLA in 1989.Pennywise
