After about four weeks following that game he was dropped to the reserves and although he was in the first 11 for the North Staffordshire Infirmary Cup final victory of 1915, he left the club at the end of the 1917–18 season. He had made 62 appearances over his seven years with the club, also scoring three goals in this time.
